Seeds for Transformed Living

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy,
The chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness,
Concerning all acts of initiative and creation.
There is one elementary truth-
The ignorance of which kills countless ideas
And splendid plans.

That the moment One definitely commits oneself,
Then providence moves, too.
All sorts of things occur
To help one
That would never otherwise have occurred.

A whole stream of events
Issues from the decision, raising in one's favor
All manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings
And material assistance
Which none
Could have dreamed
Would have come your way.

Whatever you can do, or dream you can,
Begin it!
Boldness has genius,
Power
And magic in it!
Begin it now!

Cherish your visions, your ideals, the music that stirs in your heart. If you remain true to them, your world will at last be built.

--James Allen

In order to hear your calling and answer it, you must generously give yourself the gift of time. It's not how fast you make your dream come true, but how steadily you pursue it.

Six Strategies for Staying In the Creativity Zone

All successful businesses start with a good idea - a new product, a different twist on a familiar theme, or an overlooked market niche. The challenge, however, is keeping those ideas flowing in an established business.

Innovation and creativity are not just the realm of artists. They are entrepreneurial skills with a direct bottom line payoff. It is important to learn techniques and behaviors that help you generate new ideas for your business.

Here are six proven techniques you can use to sharpen your creative thinking and keep your ideas flowing.

1. Draw on your own experience.

What are some needs or wants you have that are not easily linked to existing services or products? For example, Anne B, owner of Elite Domestic Services, drew on her personal experience to expand Elite Domestics offerings to include around the clock child care. Anne got the idea for a 24-hour babysitting service from her own struggles to find high quality and reliable emergency childcare.

2. Keep An Open Mind

Don't get fixated on the notion that there's only one solution to a problem. Think outside the box. Sometimes you have to step away and let the ideas come to you.

3. Seek Counsel

Use your network of friends and associates. It is often helpful to get different perspectives from people you respect and trust. Develop an ad hoc advisory group to help you generate and evaluate ideas, strategize, or get over a creative block. Commit to working with a success coach to keep your idea factory running smoothly.

4. Consult Your Clients or Customers

Your clients or customers are great idea-generators. Periodically take a survey of what your clients like (and dislike) about your services or products. Seek their suggestions for improvements. Listen to what your customers tell you spontaneously.

5. Don't Try Too Hard

Good ideas are most likely to hit when you are not trying to be creative. According to Charles Thompson, author of What a Great Idea (1992), top idea-generating times include: showering, commuting, sitting in a boring meeting, exercising, listening to a church sermon, and manual labor.

6. Record It

Record your ideas when they are fresh. Otherwise, you are likely to forget them. Keep a pen and paper handy in your office, at your bedside, and anywhere else you spend time. Keep a voice-activated tape recorder in your car.
